Vaccinate Lancaster Coalition Partners with Pa. National Guard for Staffing Support

April 12, 2021

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Vaccinate Lancaster Coalition has partnered with the Pennsylvania National Guard to support staffing at the Lancaster County Community Vaccination Center, with approximately 40 Guard members working onsite starting this week.

Guard members will serve in clinical and nonclinical roles at the vaccination center, located at Park City Center in Lancaster – including as vaccinators, greeters and registrars, among others. Guard members will not be providing administrative oversight or security at the center.

“We are so grateful to the Pennsylvania National Guard for offering their support and assistance as we continue our efforts to vaccinate our community members as quickly, safely and efficiently as possible,” said Dr. Michael Ripchinski, site director for the Lancaster County Community Vaccination Center and chief clinical officer with Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health, lead healthcare partner for the Vaccinate Lancaster Coalition.

“This partnership provides our vaccination center with a stable and reliable staffing resource and will ensure that we can continue to expand our capacity and increase the number of vaccinations we provide daily,” Ripchinski added.

The Pa. National Guard team supporting the center includes medical specialists who are trained to perform tasks like administering injections, and general-purpose personnel who can perform non-medical tasks, such as setting up and administrative functions.

“Our Guard members are committed to serving their fellow Pennsylvanians by assisting with COVID-19 vaccinations,” said Col. Frank Montgomery, director of domestic operations for the Pennsylvania National Guard and a Lancaster resident. “We are happy to be assisting our neighbors here, as well as at several other sites throughout the Commonwealth.”

The Pa. National Guard has been supporting COVID-19 vaccine sites across the commonwealth since mid-March. Guard members have supported more than 250,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses. They were integral in vaccinating
Pennsylvania teachers and staff.
